Game of Thrones: Pop culture expert explains why it was such a phenomenon

Yesterday saw the end of an era - eight long years of what’s considered by many to be the most important TV series of all time.

More than 10 million people took the day off work yesterday to watch the final episode of Game of Thrones, and over 20 million more came in late to their shift.

But what set this series apart? Was it worth all the fuss?
