The Auckland suburb of Titirangi has become overrun by "giant" rats attracted by food left out for its population of wild chickens.
Rats are said to be everywhere in Titirangi Village, where authorities are scrambling to control the infestation.
Locals said the rodents were running rampant near shops, cafes, retaining walls and carparks.
Auckland Council's environmental services department says solutions to this issue are currently being investigated.
