One of the greatest joys of Christmas as a kid has always been waking up early to presents under the tree.
But we often don't realise just how many kids are missing out on that experience each year, with almost 300,000 Kiwi kids living in poverty.
Gift-giving programme "Shoebox Christmas" aims to make sure no child goes without gifts these holidays. By working with the public and schools, they have been gifting shoeboxes full of gifts to kids around the country.
Founder of "Shoebox Christmas", Pera Barrett, spoke to The AM Show.
