Families and friends are desperately waiting to hear about their loved ones that are believed to be on White Island.
Police are expecting to investigate further today, attempting to deploy drones to survey the area. The information from these drones will determine whether or not it is safe for recovery teams to journey to the island.
There are now fears this tragedy will become the next 'Pike River,' with people anxious that again the bodies will not be recovered.
