If you like it, should you still put a ring on it? 

While marriage is often seen as an essential step in a successful life, last year the number of marriages in New Zealand dropped to its lowest level since 1960, according to Statistics New Zealand data. 

Only 10 couples per 1000 people eligible to marry (unmarried people 16 and over) were married last year - less than half the rate of 30 years ago.
