Arrangements to transfer Chiefs assistant coach Andrew Strawbridge back to New Zealand from Samoa are now underway.
Strawbridge fell ill on a plane to Apia where he was due to act as Manu Samoa's technical advisor against the All Blacks.
After being admitted to hospital with an eye infection, Strawbridge's condition deteriorated quickly.
An Auckland Air Ambulance will transfer Strawbridge, who remains sedated but stable.
He is expected to arrive back in New Zealand by tomorrow.
Chiefs chief executive Andrew Flexman says once Strawbridge is home he will have access to medical procedures not available in Samoa.
"One of the purposes of getting him back to New Zealand is to have a CT scan, which is not available in Samoa and hopefully that will give us a bit more clarity to what the true extent of the infection is."
