Kiwi basketballer Kirk Penney will make his return to the ANBL signing with the Illawarra Hawks.
The former ANBL MVP had two stints with the NZ Breakers and played a key role in helping the New Zealand club to their first championship in 2011.
Penney most recently played with Baloncesto Sevilla in Spain and was teammates with recent New York Knicks first round draft pick Kristaps Porzingis.
"To have Kirk join us at the Hawks is just incredible," said Hawks coach Rob Beveridge.
"To have the calibre of Kirk play for us is going to bring a lot of excitement to not only the Hawks but also the entire ANBL."
The 34-year-old is widely known for his three-point shooting and doesn't count towards an import spot, leaving the door open for the Hawks to sign another overseas player.
"I'm excited to be joining the Illawarra Hawks family, the club is no doubt moving in the right direction," said Penney.
"It will be a privilege to play ball for Coach Beveridge while also helping the Hawks become a sustainable force in the ANBL."
Earlier this month the Hawks announced the signing of another former league MVP in Kevin Lisch, who returns for his second stint in the competition after playing in Puerto Rico, France and Spain.
"Having two MVPs in our team this year is going to make us a very competitive and exciting team," Beveridge added."
