Tall Blacks hopeful for Steven Adams' Rio Olympics return

Paul Henare (3 News)

Tall Blacks coach Paul Henare is still hopeful Steven Adams will be part of the Tall Blacks' push for the Rio Olympics.

Trials began in Auckland today without the NBA star, but Henare says that is no indication of his availability.

"Obviously [I am] very hopeful that he's available but you've got to let this thing play out," he says. "In a perfect world we'd have a definitive answer and we'd be able to plan accordingly."

Meanwhile, Corey Webster will be a key to the Tall Blacks' success, and can boast his own NBA experience after being invited to camp with the Indiana Pacers.

"Just to be in that environment, that NBA environment you learn a lot," he says. "To be playing against that calibre of talent and knowing you can compete is good for the confidence, so looking forward to the next challenge."
