Kiwis forward Martin Taupau is reportedly asking for a release from the West Tigers, according to Australian radio station Triple M.

Speaking on the NRL 360 show, Ben Dobbin from Triple M radio revealed that Taupau is expected to walk away from the Tigers.

"One of the biggest names in their side, Martin Taupau, will not be playing there next year," Dobbin said.

"What I can tell you is that he has asked the club that he could please get a release."

The South Sydney Rabbitohs and Gold Coast Titans are thought to be interest in his signature.

"Now, everybody's talking that he's going to go to South Sydney but my understanding is that the Gold Coast Titans are right in the mix to sign this superstar."

He is contracted with the Tigers until 2016.

The 25-year-old has also expressed an interest in following Jayne Hayne into the NFL.

Taupau says he's always dreamed of playing in the NFL, and after the recent success of Hayne making the 49ers rosters, could make the switch himself.
