Video: All-female V8 Supercars team gears up for Bathurst

Simona de Silvestro

Swiss IndyCar driver Simona de Silvestro is teaming up with Australian Renee Gracie to become the first all-female driver combination at Bathurst since 1998.

The pair are preparing for the 'Great Race' with reigning Bathurst 1000 champion Paul Morris on the Gold Coast.

De Silvestro, who made her name in open-wheel racing, has never sat behind the wheel of a right-hand drive race car, but said the calling of Bathurst was too hard to turn down.

"[Bathurst] is a race I've always wanted to do, especially when I was racing in America everyone talked about this race," said de Silvestro.

"When I got the call to come and do it, it was really special. All my career I've been in open-wheel and IndyCar, for me as a driver, it's a brand new challenge to drive one of these cars."

Bathurst will be held at Mount Panorama on October 8 to 11.
