Kiwi rally driver Hayden Paddon is aiming for a top three finish at this week's World Rally Championship event in Australia.

Paddon and co-driver John Kennard will steer the #8 Hyundai i20 WRC car, Hyundai Motorsport’s main team and an upgrade from their usual #20 car.

All season, Paddon has said he's been targeting Rally Australia for a good result.

"Rally Australia is certainly the one we've been looking forward to the most all year," said Paddon.

"It's obviously the closest we get to home, but just the environment here makes you feel a lot more comfortable like it is a home rally. Roads are similar, very flowing and a lot of gravel.

"Obviously there is a lot of Kiwis that come over here as well, the amount of support we have and the amount of Kiwi flags on the side of the road just makes you dig that little bit deeper."

Paddon finished sixth in Rally Australia last season, his best result of the season.

"It's a happy hunting ground for us, we need to make the most of it again this year."
