The All Whites have drawn 1-1 against Myanmar after a second half fightback by the hosts.
Shane Smeltz's 43rd minute penalty was cancelled out by Thiha Zaw's strike in the 66th minute at the Thuwanna Stadium in Yangon on Monday night.
The All Whites had a chance to win it late, but Alex Rufer's goal bound header was pushed onto the post by the Myanmar keeper.
Coach Anthony Hudson says the side didn't play to the standards they aimed to set.
"We certainly weren’t at the level we intended to play at," said Hudson
"I just felt we lacked throughout the game a little bit of urgency and we were a little bit one-paced."
New Zealand's winless streak in international football now stretches back to September, 2013.
