Two goals from Mathieu Flamini helped Arsenal to a 2-1 win over bitter North London rivals Tottenham in the Capital One Cup.

The French midfielder handed the Gunners the lead when he followed up an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's shot that Spurs keeper Michel Vorm could only parry into his path.

The hosts equalised when Calum Chambers scored an own goal from Nacer Chadli's cross.

But it would be Flamini's day to shine when he expertly volleyed home the winner in the 78th minute.

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea continued their recent revival by winning 4-1 at third-tier Walsall to record a third consecutive victory, while Sheffield Wednesday deepened Newcastle United's woes with a 1-0 win.

Carlisle took Liverpool to a penalty shootout after playing out a 1-1 game, but the Premier League side would scrape through 3-2 on penalties.
