Video: Joey Votto loses it at umpire, gets ejected – Reds V Pirates

Joey Votto goes ballistic

Major League Baseball is traditionally painted as a portrait of lazy summer afternoons, the smell of freshly cut grass and impeccable white uniforms.

But Joey Votto peppered that picture with some colourful language on Thursday afternoon (NZT).

The Cincinnati Reds' first baseman was ejected late in their 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates for an aggressive outburst towards one of the umpires.

Votto was aggrieved at umpire Bill Welke's call on a 1-1 pitch, throwing down his helmet and tossing his bat before getting right up in Welke's face.

Votto had to be restrained by his manager and another umpire, but he wouldn't let the decision go.

It was the climax of a frustrated evening for Votto who had already struck out twice in three at-bats at Great American Ball Park.

Watch the video to see Joey Votto explode.
