Kiwi rally driver Hayden Paddon has proved his worth on gravel this season, but tomorrow he will take on the unique challenge of racing on tarmac as the World Rally Championship heads to the French island of Corsica for the first time in seven years.
"We have to take a step back realistically for this one in terms of the expectations," Paddon says. "It's a surface we're not so familiar on, and it's something we still have to learn a lot."
The race is renowned for being the rally of 10,000 corners, and Paddon says that all the twists make it "probably one of the more challenging events".
He has spent time driving a circuit car with the help of a specialist driver as he looks to refine his tarmac technique.
But he's not entirely green – the Tour de Corse will be the 28-year-old's second tarmac event of the year after finishing ninth in Germany in August.
