Kiwis want part in Ireland Rugby World Cup history

History is on the line for Ireland when they take on Argentina in the quarterfinals and apart from head coach Joe Schmidt, there are a couple of other Kiwis helping the men in green.

Since the first World Cup in 1987, Ireland has never made the semifinals.

Having disposed of France last weekend, they now take on Argentina and Kiwi frontrower Nathan White wants to be part of history.

"It's a big weekend for Irish rugby. If they get through this one it's the furthest they have ever been," White said.

For the 34-year-old prop who played 41 times for the Chiefs, it's a long way from his days at Te Awamutu College.

While Kiwi Joe Schmidt is head coach, the man in charge of the Irish scrum is former All Black prop Greg Feek and he doesn't think the French can rebound from last week's loss.

"There's been talk about the history, different squad, the payers, the culture, unity, all those things, let alone the individual brilliance some of the players can bring. It's going to be a great game to watch," Feek said.

Despite having made the last eight, Ireland still have to deal with some major challenges.

So far, the so-called 'luck of the Irish' has deserted them. Every week they've had to cope with more and more injuries and now the suspension of one of their top players, Sean O'Brien who copped a one-week ban for punching.

Add to that the tournament-ending injuries to inspirational captain Paul O'Connell and first-choice flanker Peter O'Mahoney.

There is also a serious question over key playmaker Jonny Sexton, who has a groin injury.

But the Irish are taking the adversity in their stride.

"Lads like putting their bodies on the line. It's unfortunate there has been a lot of injuries, a lot of guys are misfortunate but that's life," Ireland centre Keith Earls said.

Despite the injury toll, Ireland will start as slight favourites but the forwards, and their mentor, know the Pumas will be no pushover.
