Ireland coach Joe Schmidt admitted that captain Paul O'Connell and flanker Peter O'Mahony may be out for the rest of the Rugby World Cup.
First five-eighth Jonathan Sexton was also hurt in the 24-9 win over France this morning, hobbling off with a groin injury in the first half after a huge hit from Louis Picamoles.
O'Connell was given oxygen and left the field on a stretcher at halftime.
"It doesn't look great to be honest. That would be a big blow for us," Schmidt said of O'Connell's injury.
"We're going to have to wait and see. We won't be able to get him scanned until tomorrow and we'll know more by Tuesday (Wednesday NZT)."
"It looks like an upper hamstring. He was in over the ball and just got hit down and through. As a result he felt that his hamstring came under real pressure and he wasn't able to continue after that.
"You just never say never with Paul, so we’re just going to cross our fingers for the next 24 hours."
O'Connell is set to retire from rugby after the tournament meaning he could have played his final game for Ireland.
Schmidt hadn't spoken to O'Mahony before addressing the media, but was doubtful on his future.
"Hopefully Pete's not too bad, again his might have been a knee twist. I have only seen the replay and I haven’t spoken to Pete yet.
Ireland will meet Argentina in the quarterfinals.
