Boxer Kali Meehan can't wait for young up-and-comer Joseph Parker to try knock the "old dog" over when they fight at Trusts Arena next week.

At the age of 45, Meehan has enjoyed reviving his boxing career and is ready to cement his legacy in what could be his last ever bout on Thursday night.

"I always knew one day I wanted to be the old dog and have a new guy come up and try and beat me, I always look forward to that for some strange reason," Meehan said.

"I bring a lot of pride. I believe that what happens in the ring is spoken about forever. In a sense you're only as good as your last fight so whatever happens in this fight, when people hear Kali Meehan they're going to talk about what they've seen last.

"I know that it's not going to be an easy fight, it's going to be a very hard fight. Joe's going to bring it and so am I."

Meehan has been sparring with his son Willis, who is fighting on the undercard, and feels his youthfulness has helped him prepare for the fight.

"I don't know how 45 is supposed to feel like but I feel very good. I've done 80 rounds of sparring and that's a lot.

"No one's ever hit him really [Parker]. He hasn't faced someone who he's hit and they just keep coming apart from Sherman Williams. Every test he's had he's passed, I just feel I'm a bigger test."

Fighting at Trusts Arena in Waitakere will be a homecoming of sorts for Meehan who grew up in Avondale.
