Video: Tomkins - my best still to come

Warriors fullback Sam Tomkins has vowed to finish his often polarising stint in the NRL on a strong note ahead of today's NRL battle with the Dragons in Wellington.

The Englishman has divided both critics and fans opinions during his move to Auckland from Super League, which comes to an end when he returns to Wigan in 2016. Team mates are quick to praise his involvement both on and off the field, citing his communication and ability to be an extra set of hands on attack as pivotal to the Warriors game plan.

In the absence of the injured Shaun Johnson, extra responsibility has been placed on Tomkins' shoulders - who himself has had an injury disrupted season.

When quizzed about his thoughts on his time at Mt Smart, Tomkins told 3news.co.nz "I've played some more good stuff but there's certainly more to come hopefully. Coming to this time of the year I'm going to have to put my hand up and played the best I have."

However he would see missing out on the playoffs as a missed opportunity. "It's do or die, we're not under illusion of the situation that we're in at the moment, we need to win probably 4 out the next 5 games to make sure we're up in that eight."

Tomkins also praised the input of fellow Brit Gareth Widdop on the Dragons campaign and his threat today. "Benji (Marshall) will get all the headlines because of who he is and how he plays, but 'Gaz' is a massive part of how they go."
