Breakers power forward Tai Wesley produced a career-best performance last night, pouring in 26 points against the Taipans, but it's another, much more personal milestone that the big man has on his mind.

With his wife in the early stages of labour with their first child Wesley played the match with his phone in his sock. Wesley again had his phone close by at the Breakers recovery session this morning.

The expectant father revealed basketball has been a welcome distraction

"Before the game Deano (Coach Dean Vickerman) mentioned that I would most likely be a dad this week. One thing he said was 'go make your son proud,' so that was some motivation for last night, and it was great to just free my mind and go have some fun," Wesley said.

Wesley wasn't the only Breaker to have a personal best performance with Corey Webster nailing 35 points. Webster's also due to become a dad this season, but wasn't so sure he'll be taking to the court with his phone.
