Umpire Nigel Llong has reportedly been taken off third umpire duty and will officiate the second Test between the Black Caps and Sri Lanka from the field.
ESPNcricinfo.com says the Englishman will umpire alongside Paul Reiffel on the field with Richard Kettleborough taking third umpire duties for the Test which begins on December 18.
Llong's most recent involvement with New Zealand resulted in a controversial decision in the third Test against Australia, with the umpire ruling Nathan Lyon not out despite a replay clearly showing a Hot Spot on the spinner's bat.
On-field umpire S Ravi's decision was upheld despite Lyon walking halfway to the dressing room, and Australia went on to win the Test and claim the series 2-0.
The decision was slammed by media and cricket commentators while New Zealand asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a please explain; they later admitted Llong's decision was wrong.
