Video: Mourinho's reputation untarnished after Chelsea's horror season

.

Chelsea are set to name Dutchman Guus Hiddink as interim manager until the end of the season after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Despite being dismissed for an abysmal start to the season however, the 'Special One' is not likely to have any shortage of job offers.

Chelsea's players arrived for training as normal in the morning for their first session without Mourinho at the helm – but Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal hinted it was a long time in the making.

"The main thing is results, and the second main thing is the chemistry between the coach and his players and staff," the Dutchman explained.

It seems Mourinho had neither, with Chelsea suffering nine losses in 16 premier league matches – a poor showing for any team, let alone the reigning champions.

Adding to the poor results, physiotherapist Eva Carneiro left the club after public criticism from Mourinho in September and there have been reports high-profile players didn't want to play for him.

A return to Real Madrid is possible, while Manchester United could be tempted to extend an offer if they part ways with Louis Van Gaal.

The calibre of clubs linked to Mourinho shows his reputation has not been severely tarnished by the Chelsea meltdown.

Guus Hiddink will only be an interim manager so the Blues could pursue Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard's contract is up at the end of the season and he's expected to announce tomorrow he won't be re-signing.

Chelsea would have to fight Manchester City for his services, but whoever does take charge of Chelsea, they can be assured of being on a short leash.
