Spinner Todd Astle has been dropped for the Black Caps' Twenty20 decider against Pakistan in Wellington tonight.

The 29-year-old has been released from the squad to play domestic cricket with Canterbury in tomorrow's Ford Trophy semifinal against the Central Stags in Christchurch.

It brings Astle's brief return to the international scene to an end after appearing for the Black Caps in two Twenty20's for the first time since a Test against Sri lanka in 2012.

Legspinner Ish Sodhi is the favourite to replace Astle.
