It's one of the smallest cars in Targa - but it's one of the fastest and wildest.
Marcus van Klink found the former World Rally Car on the internet. It wasn't exactly a bargain at $150,000, but on the 16th stage it proved its worth, setting the fastest time.
"It's a complete go kart, it just goes around corners. but touring is very hard on it. It's very noisy, but once you're on the stages it's fantastic," van Klink said.
Van Klink's turn of speed won't trouble Glenn Inkster, although the rally leader did get a fright during a stage in the King Country today.
"About 15km that way we saw some all-but-naked fishermen, you know, we've had some scary moments this week but that was the worst," Inkster said.
Second-placed Tony Quinn is enjoying the central North Island scenery as he bides his time waiting for Inkster to trip up.
"Yeah I'm happy, mate, you have to be, it is what it is. We're having coffee, bloody Billy Joel is on the radio," Quinn said.
Today, the rally went international as it travelled through the republic of Whangamomona, the two longest stages not changing the top three with Martin Dippie still in in third.
But the big mover was Targa's most entertaining driver Steven Kirk-Burnnand who has drifted up to fourth.
