He's had some memorable knocks over his 14 year international career, but today's record breaking 145 off just 79 deliveries is up their with one of his best.
Slammed on talkback and social media in recent weeks for "checking out" as he enters the cauldron for the final time as a Black Cap, 'Baz' provided all the haters with an emphatic response in his last hurrah.
Summoned to the crease with his side 32/3 on a green top pitch that was seaming about, McCullum signaled his intent early, charging Josh Hazlewood with the second delivery he faced. He didn't look back.
Yes he had a stroke of fortune on 39, but as McCullum said yesterday "fortune favours the brave."
He smacked 20 boundaries, four of them sixes, to raise the ton off just 54 deliveries, a world record for the fastest test century in the history of international cricket. He finished with 27 boundaries, 21 fours and six sixes.
The previous best was shared by Pakistan's Misbah Ul-Haq and the great West Indies batsman Sir Viv Richards, who both clobbered 58 ball centuries in 2014 and 1986 respectively.
I've never seen so many standing ovations in a cricket match. 8000 people came to Hagley Oval for Brendon McCullum's farewell party and he sure did provide the entertainment.
He now averages 170 in test cricket at Hagley Oval, after another swashbuckling century here on Boxing Day in 2014 against Sri Lanka. But this one is far more important.
This is against the old enemy. They're now in with a chance of winning the Test.
Enjoy the moment, Brendon. You've earned it.
