Video: Garbutt banned for two matches after punching Tamou

Leeds Rhinos prop Mitch Garbutt has been slapped with a two-match ban for punching North Queesland Cowboys front-rower James Tamou.

Garbutt was sent off for the punch after knocking Tamou to the ground in the late stages of Leeds' 38-4 loss in the World Club Series.

The 26-year-old reacted after Tamou slapped team-mate Keith Galloway, an offense that earned the Kiwi-born Australian international a yellow card to go with his bloody nose.

Garbutt was eligible to submit an early guilty plea, and after admitting the offence and avoiding a disciplinary hearing, was given the minimum sanction.

Leeds coach Brian McDermott dubbed Garbutt "silly" for his reaction.

"There was some provocation but I think Keith Galloway can handle a slap," said McDermott.

The panel ruled that Tamou did not deserve a suspension for only making light contact.
