It was a packed house at Hagley Oval today which witnessed an historic innings from Black Caps skipper Brendon McCullum, but few enjoyed it as much as his father, Stu McCullum.
Once a handy cricketer in his own right, Stu beamed with pride as he reflected on Brendon's record-breaking hundred, cutting two balls off the record previously held by legendary West Indies batsman Viv Richards in racing to triple figures off just 54 deliveries.
"Yeah it was special," said McCullum senior. "Couldn't have been scripted better, I suppose."
"It's nice to finish on a good note, so to speak. But he's still got one more innings to go so we'll see what happens."
