Faumuina: Jaguares set scrum standard

Blues prop Charlie Faumuina admits coming up against a strong Jaguares forward pack will give his side a good indication of just how good they are up front.

The Blues are fresh off a bye week which they spent focusing on their set-pieces and scrums after a disappointing showing in a 24-24 draw against the Reds.

Faumuina knows the Blues will have to be at their best at QBE Stadium on Saturday night to slow a promising Jaguares side.

"Just watching them they love to throw the ball around and we've just got to make sure we take care of those offloads," Faumuina said.

"Obviously set piece is where we'll get to have a bit of a challenge up front. We've got to make sure we take care of a couple of their strengths."

It will be the Jaguares' first visit to New Zealand and Faumuina is relishing the chance to come out on top in the scrum battle.

"It's something we want to walk towards, mainly our scrum hasn't been going too well so I guess it's a good test for us this week to see where we're at after a good week off.

"I think scrumming as a pack is probably one thing we can take away from the Jaguares, they really scrum together as an eight."

Results didn't go the Blues way while they were resting up at home with all four other New Zealand teams registering wins.

Rooted to the bottom of the New Zealand Conference with seven points, the Blues already find themselves seven points adrift of the fourth-placed Crusaders.

One interested onlooker was former All Blacks coach Graham Henry who, while sporting a Blues cap, was attending merely as a spectator.
