The Hurricanes have edged the Blues 23-19 to claim their first win of the Super Rugby season.
The hosts got off to a great start, controlling possession and territory as they leapt to an early 8-0 lead on the back of a fantastic Rene Ranger finish.
The Hurricanes finally found some rhythm as the match entered its second quarter, executing a textbook line out drive to get their first try on the board before Nehe Milner-Skudder's break and chip kick lead to another score to TJ Perenara to take a flattering 15-8 advantage into the sheds.
The Blues hit back shortly after the resumption of play, George Moala displaying impressive power as he rummaged his way across the chalk from close range to close the gap to 15-13.
The visitors were able to extend their lead with a questionable try from close range, the ball appearing to have been fumbled by a Hurricanes player on a couple of occasions before Perenara swan dived to dot down in the corner, the video ref happy to award the five pointer.
The sides then traded penalties heading into crunch time, the Blues launching multiple forays at the Hurricanes line in attempt to steal a win but the defense remained resolute, a turnover at the ruck sealing their first win of the season.
