Kiwi sailors Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have claimed gold at the European Championship in Spain, making it their 25th regatta win on the bounce.

The pair performed well in the final day's 49er gold fleet races, winning the first two and taking an unassailable 44-point lead into the double-point medal race.

Speaking after the race, Burling said he and Tuke had been "tidying up" some things ahead of the race, in preparation for the Rio Olympics.

"Obviously we're pretty stoked to go out there and take another title," he said.

"It's just pleasing that we've come out of this week with a few things to work on as well. You know we're really happy with how it went, and we're going to keep pushing on towards the goal later in the year."

Another Kiwi duo with high hopes of a podium finish heading into the final day were 49erFX sailors Alex Maloney and Molly Meech, who were disappointed to end the regatta in fifth.

The women's field was much closer than the men's, and the pair were just five points off a bronze medal -- with their 10th place finish in the medal race ultimately costing them dearly, as it was worth double points.
