Antonio Conte has been confirmed as the new Chelsea manager after months of speculation.

The English Premier League club made the announcement today via their website. The current Italy manager has signed a three-year deal thought to be worth £15 million.

The 46-year-old said he was excited by the "day-to-day challenge of competing in the Premier League".

"'Chelsea and English football are watched wherever you go, the fans are passionate and my ambition is to have more success to follow the victories I enjoyed in Italy," he said.

"I am happy we have made the announcement now so everything is clear and we can end the speculation. I will continue to focus on my job with the Italian national team and will reserve speaking about Chelsea again until after the Euros."

Conte is the fifth Italian manager to take charge at Chelsea following Gianluca Vialli, Roberto di Matteo, Carlo Ancelotti and Claudio Ranieri who currently managers league-leaders Leicester City.

Chelsea have struggled this season after winning the league last year under Jose Mourinho, and find themselves 10th in the table with only eight games left this season.

Mourinho was fired in December after the team's poor start to the season had them flirting with relegation, with Ancelotti brought back as caretaker manager for his second stint with the club.
