While Conor McGregor's future in the Octagon is still up in the air, the UFC confirmed that he won't be fighting in UFC 200.

McGregor was scheduled to fight in the main event, but UFC president Dana White confirmed the Irish fighter had been pulled on ESPN's SportsCenter show

White said McGregor refused to attend a Las Vegas press conference this week, which resulted in him being pulled from the fight card.

"Obviously we still have a good relationship with Conor," said White.

"I respect Conor as a fighter and I like him as a person. But you can't decide not to show up to these things. You have to do it."

Earlier, McGregor has hinted at an early retirement with a cryptic message on Twitter.

The UFC featherweight champion and all-time trash talker was tipped to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 200 in July, but abruptly announced his retirement on Twitter.

Is Conor McGregor retiring from UFC?

"I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya's later," he wrote.

McGregor did not elaborate on the tweet, so one can only presume at this early stage, which many of his fans have done on Twitter.

The 27-year-old is one of the biggest stars in the UFC and earlier this week was tweeting photos of himself in training.

Some sport bookmakers had already released odds on his expected rematch with Diaz, who beat McGregor by submission in the Irish fighters last fight.

McGregor's coach John Kavanagh has since tweeted what appears to be a follow up to his fighter's outburst.

Diaz took a light-hearted approach to the debate, saying he was going to retire as well.
