Hayden Paddon heads back into the thick of World Rally Championship action with Rally Argentina getting underway tomorrow.

But the challenging Argentina course means Paddon may have to adjust his tactics if he wants to achieve a similar result to his last race in Mexico.

It's been six weeks since Paddon's last WRC rally, a fifth place finish in Rally Mexico before cruising to victory in the Otago rally, his only racing since.

"It's certainly felt like a long time since Rally Mexico so I'm really itching to get back in the car and get back in the competition," Paddon said.

He won't have to wait long, back in South America for his third start in Argentina after two-and-half weeks back in New Zealand.

"Mexico was a bit of a bonus result with the top five even with the troubles we had, so if we can try and repeat that sort of result here in Argentina and stay out of problems then that'd be great."

Paddon struggled to stay out of trouble last year, crashing out of one stage and in to the crowd to eventually finish 16th

"It's the roughest rally on the calendar. We saw here last year that the attrition rate was very high and it's really a matter of controlling those speeds, especially in the rough sections."

The Kiwi is happy with how he's started this season, and won't be going all out on his return to Argentina.

"We need to look after the car, particularly on the rough sections so we really need to plan accordingly for this rally and try and stick to that plan throughout the three days."

That plan will need to be well thought through, the course features roads that haven't been driven on since 2012.

After Argentina the circuit moves back to his favoured European tracks, with Rally Portugal next month.
