Twitter goes wild over Manly Sea Eagles' sideline gherkins

The internet put on its detective cap Thursday night when the Parramatta Eels visited Brookvale Oval after a jar of gherkins was spotted on the Manly Sea Eagles' bench.

Alongside Powerade bottles and strapping tape, the food item was spotted by a Channel 9 camera to which commentator Ray Warren asked "is that some sort of peptide?"

If it was then it wasn't a very good one as the Sea Eagles went down to the Eels 22-10.

Co-commentator Brad Fittler said gherkin juice is actually the perfect antidote for cramping.

Fans quickly took to Twitter to find out if this was true to which Sport science and strength and conditioning researcher at the University of Queensland Vince Kelly confirmed.

Other users couldn’t get over the fact there were gherkins on the sideline of a professional game of rugby league.
