After a week of off-field disruption and injury, both Hurricanes stand-in captain TJ Perenara and coach Chris Boyd were satisfied with their side's efforts in securing a 29-14 bonus point win over the Reds in Wellington.
"On the surface it was little bit ugly," said Boyd.
"But considering the week that's been and the fact that we lost both of our locks and Dane (Coles), ended up with two openside flankers and a 6 playing No.8, the bulk of the game I was really happy we were able to hold on and get our bonus point."
With five players stood down due to a breaking of team protocol on their South African leg the Hurricanes team had a makeshift look to it, however Boyd was quick to praise the efforts of those filling in.
"I think they all did really well. They had big shoes to fill and, by and large, they did a pretty good job."
Captain TJ Perenara cited the play of a lowly Reds outfit in stifling their normally expansive style of play.
"They're a very good defensive team. They spread the field quite well, their loose forward trio attacked the ruck very well, and they made it tough for us to attack and get quick ball."
