Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden will likely miss the start of the NFL season after suffering a bizarre elbow injury.
McFadden broke his right elbow after falling at home while trying to not drop his mobile phone.
The 28-year-old kept the injury quiet at first and continued to practice with the team, wearing a protective sleeve on his arm.
He eventually approached medical staff at the end of the week who found out the extent of his injury when they performed an x-ray.
"He told our training staff at the end of the week. Then in the physical [Monday] it was determined he has a break in his elbow," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said at his press conference.
"I don't want to put too much of a timetable on it. They said the surgery went well, and the overarching thing was a couple months. "
The running back is coming off a solid 1000-yard rushing season for the Cowboys, but finds his starting position in doubt after the team drafted highly-rated Ezekiel Elliott with the fourth pick in the NFL Draft.
