Kieran Read might be the new All Blacks captain but he states he won't change his personality for the new role.

Read will lead the All Blacks out against Wales at Eden Park on Saturday night, but other than being referred to as 'Skip' by a few teammates, he doesn't think he needs to distance himself now he's a leader.

"I don't really need to change my personality or who I am, I think that's the best think about me as a leader is it suits me and it suits the team," Read said.

"I just be myself, a few of the lads give me a little bit of crap, and it'll probably still keep that way."

Read has captained the All Blacks on eight previous occasions, but tomorrow's Test will mark the changing of the guard.

"I'm bloody excited, mate. It's been a long kind of build up, a couple of weeks, and I just can't wait to get out on the field.
