Chiefs coach Dave Rennie isn't blaming any outside distractions on his side's failure to secure the bonus point they needed to top the Super Rugby ladder.
The Chiefs were run-over in a second half rampage by the Highlanders in Dunedin last night with the hosts running out 25-15 winners.
Rennie says his team knew what they needed to do and the simple equation wasn't an excuse for their lack of second half energy.
"We just had to win, we knew that," he said
"There were no distractions and because of that you can't complain that we are travelling now as we had the opportunity to be at home.
"That's the way it is but it doesn't mean it’s the end of the line though."
The former two time champions will travel to Cape Town to take on the Stormers who haven't played a New Zealand franchise in 2016.
Rennie admits he has some work to do in preparation for Sunday morning's (NZT) elimination encounter.
"Haven't seen much of them at all to be honest.
"They are at home, they will back themselves, but we played there last year in Cape Town in front of 40,000 people."
But despite the tough travel schedule the Chiefs coach is confident hios team has what it takes to get the job done
"We are a good enough side to win on the road, we have done that plenty of times this year."
