The home of the Highlanders will swap line outs for burn outs in December when the D1NZ drifters take centre stage.

Events will be held all over New Zealand including Mt Smart Stadium, Hampton Downs and Manfield.

The biggest surprise for both fans and competitors is the announcement of Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium as host for the opening round, the custom motorsport event will be a first of its kind for the Southern Hemisphere.

More than 3600 square metres of race track will be laid inside the covered all-weather stadium, creating what organisers say will be the most unique motorsport exercise undertaken this side of the globe.

"The effort required to build an event of this nature is huge, but it's been a long time coming. We can't wait to see some of the best drift-cars in the world roar in front of a packed stadium atmosphere, combined with a fresh and exciting new show format this will be one not to miss", said D1NZ Series Director Brendon White.
