Kiwi Olympic medal prospect Lauren Boyle is putting a recent battle with illness behind her as she enters the final preparations for her Rio campaign.

The Commonwealth Champion was struck with a virus that put her training back by a week, but has said it has actually benefited her.

"It’s really made me reflect on my preparation and I think I wasn't really grateful enough about how well it was going," she said.

"I was picking holes in my training, thinking it wasn't perfect, but since of being ill it's really made me think I have to be grateful for what I have now."

Boyle isn't allowing her time off the shelf affect her focus ahead of her quest for an Olympic medal.

"I've had a bit of a bump in my road.

"I'm really trying to go with a positive mind-set around it, and not get to disappointed yet."

Boyle will look to create history in Rio by becoming the first Kiwi woman to clinch gold in the pool.

The 28-year-old has two shots at glory, competing in both the 400 and 800 metre freestyle events.
