Defending Olympic champion Serena Williams has been sent bundling out of the Rio Olympics in the third round.
Williams was beaten in straight sets by Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-3 and will head home without any medals after already losing in the doubles with sister Venus.
The 22-time Grand Slam singles winner struggled hitting 37 unforced errors and only landing 58 percent of her first serve, hitting an incredible five double-faults in one game.
Williams, who appeared to lack any energy, left the court clutching at her shoulder as Svitolina lapped up the applause from the crowd.
