All Blacks coach Steve Hansen says he is disappointed for the All Blacks Sevens who were knocked out in the quarter-finals at the Olympics.
"To have all the injuries they've had they'll want to know why, and they'll rue their performance against Japan,” Hansen said.
The All Blacks Sevens only recorded one win against Kenya, while they picked up losses against Japan, Great Britain and Fiji.
Hansen believes that if no international rugby was played during the Olympics, more international players would take part in the Games.
"At the same time it emphasises the way players feel about the All Blacks jersey and their franchise
"We'd like to have all our great players at the Olympics to try win the gold medal but that’s not guaranteed either and we still want to win test matches and that's not guaranteed.”
The All Blacks coach also thinks the Sevens side deserves to have the All Blacks name associated with it.
"They are a New Zealand side and they wear an All Black uniform. It's one of those things. People see it as the All Blacks Sevens, I don't have a problem with it."
Hansen also shared his condolences for the family of Sir Colin Meads following the news that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
"He's a legend of our game, a man who has performed heroically, not only for the All Blacks but his province as well,
"Unfortunately he's got cancer and I wish him and his family all the best in dealing with that during this tough time."
