Singapore's Joseph Schooling has won gold in the men's 100m butterfly final.
The 21-year-old claimed a Olympic record time of 50.39 second, beating the old record by 0.19 seconds.
Schooling's win over overshadowed by the three-way tie for second, which included Michael Phelps, Chad Le Clos and Laszlo Cseh with times of 51.14 seconds.
"It is a wild way to end my individual career. It's just wild," Phelps said after the race.
"I was like, 'Three? Three of us tied for third?'"
It was the first medal of the Olympics for Schooling and Cseh, while Le Clos claimed his second silver and Phelps added to his medal count, now with five in this year's Olympics.
Phelps has announced after the race he will not compete in the Tokyo Olympics saying, "I'm not coming back in 2020."
