Changes to Black Caps Test squad 'unlikely' - Black Caps coach Mike Hesson

Black Caps coach Mike Hesson isn't forecasting changes to the Test squad, when the team is announced this week to tour India.

Experienced players such as Tim Southee and Martin Guptill performed well below expectations against South Africa last month, particularly so in the 204 run second Test loss in Pretoria.

But Hesson told Andrew Gourdie and James McOnie on Radio Live, with conditions in India being so different to those back home and in the Republic, it will be hard to bring new blood into the side.

"It's unlikely," he said.

"Just due to the fact in India the conditions are so foreign."

"If we were to pick someone straight out of New Zealand, the conditions are so different,"

The 41 year-old said the selection panel will however look at players who have history of performing in the India through previous New Zealand tours, or the IPL.

"We will certainly look at players who are equipped and have experienced the conditions before."

As far as a change at the top of the order due to the repeated struggles of Guptil, Hesson said back-up top-order batsmen, Jeet Raval, is an option, but lack of international experience may count against him.

"Jeet has not had any experience playing in India, maybe as a youngster but not since he has matured as a cricketer."

The Black Caps Test squad for the Indian series will be announced tomorrow.
