England winger Chris Ashton is set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines after being found guilty of biting.

After a six-hour hearing, a disciplinary panel found the 29-year-old bit Northampton prop Alex Waller during Saracens' 27-12 Premiership victory.

The panel looked at two counts against Ashton, but dismissed the second charge.

The Chairman of the panel Philip Evans QC said: "Having considered detailed evidence the panel concluded that during the course of a ruck Chris Ashton bit the arm of Alex Waller at a time that Mr Waller was attempting to clear him out. The panel concluded it was a low-end entry point aggravated by his previous record."

Ashton will be free to play again on the 19 December.

The winger was banned for 10 weeks last season for gouging.

Ashton has been capped 39 times by England, but his last cap came in 2014 during a tour of New Zealand.
