I had unfinished business after Rio - Tom Walsh on Diamond League win

New Zealand shot putter Tomas Walsh knew he could take his throwing to the next level after breaking his personal best record twice in a week.

Walsh unfurled a throw of 22.20m to win the Diamond League shot put event in Zurich, proving enough for the Kiwi to claim the overall Diamond League points title.

"I knew that I had something like that in me after Paris, I knew that there was a little bit left in the tank," said Walsh.

A throw of 22.20m would have comfortably been enough for silver at Rio two weeks ago, although Walsh still would have fallen short of American Ryan Crouser's Olympic record winning thrown of 22.56m.

It was the second time in a week that Walsh eclipsed the world's best throwers and extended his national record, improving on the 22.00m he threw in Paris earlier this week.

Walsh believes it's only a matter of time until the shot put world record is surpassed.

"Between the guys who are throwing at the moment, someone is going to break the world record and it's just a race to see who does it first."

Randy Barnes holds the world shot put record of 23.12m, which he set in 1990.
