A second half hat-trick from Romelu Lukaku has guided Everton to a comfortable 3-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The Belgian striker proved too much for the Sunderland defenders to handle as he ruthlessly ended a drought of 1,139 minutes without a competitive goal that stretched back to March.

Lukaku converted two close-range headers, before burying his third with a low strike after racing onto a swift through ball from Kevin Mirallas.

Sunderland's best chance came in the first half when Jermain Defoe latched onto a deflected shot and woefully lifted his effort over the bar.

The result moves Ronald Koeman's side up to third on the Premier League table.

It's been a conflicting start for David Moyes as the defeat to his former side leaves Sunderland 19th with just one point from their first four games.
