Nearly five decades after his death, the story of Kiwi racing legend Bruce McLaren is being told like never before.

Not just in a soon to be released film, but in a children’s book which is due out this week.

The book is called Bruce want’s to go faster and is about the life from his time in a crippled children’s home to turning McLaren into one of motorsports greatest teams.

Kids at McLaren’s former primary school, Meadowbank primary school got the chance to see the book before it was made available to the public.

The book was written by Dreydon Sobanji, who previously wrote a children’s book on Sir Edumund Hilliary.

“He just inspires kids with the way he goes about the things he does,” said Sobanji.

The movie is to be directed by Roger Donaldson, the man who directed the World’s Fastest indian.

Both the book and film are going to have the same theme, inspiration.

McLaren was only 32 when he was killed tasting a race car in England, but despite dying at a young age, McLaren famously said ‘Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone.’
