If Nick Kyrgios wasn’t liked before his appearance at the Shanghai Open, he certainly hasn’t won any more fans after this spat.
It was bad enough that he remonstrated with members of the crowd during the 6-3 6-1 loss to German Alexander Zverev but the 21-year-old took his poor attitude out verbally on a journalist in the post-game press conference when asked about 'tanking' the match and intentionally losing points.
When asked about whether the members of the public deserved better when paying to watch him, Kyrgios was typically bullish in his response.
"I don’t owe them anything. I'm good at hitting a tennis ball over a net, big deal. I don’t owe them anything, it’s my choice," he said.
"I don’t ask them to come watch, if you don’t like it leave".
Of course, this is far from the first time that Kyrgios’ acts on the court have got him into trouble.
We all remember the Wimbledon 2015 incidents where he appeared to call an umpire "dirty scum" under his breath and then, tanked a match against Gasquet during the same tournament.
Before that, Kyrgios was involved in a verbal altercation with Stan Wawrinka at the French Open when the Aussie dropped a derogatory comment about Wawrinka's girlfriend. He then followed that up by taking aim at Tennis Austalia performance director Pat Rafter.
