The Breakers' 98-92 overtime victory against Melbourne United last night has potentially come at a cost, with import point guard Ben Woodside suffering a foot injury last night.
Woodside went down injured during the overtime period as he drove to the basket.
"He's still pretty sore," said coach Paul Henare soon after their arrival back in Auckland on Saturday.
"We've got to wait for scans, but it seems like he's done some damage to his plantar fascia. We will try to get him in as quickly as possible to get some firm answers."
Woodside was recruited by the Breakers during the offseason, following recommendation by Kirk Penny, who had played with Woodside in Europe.
It was fitting Penny was one of the players to assist Woodside off the court.
It is a short turnaround for the Breakers as they face the Andre Lemanis and the Brisbane Bullets at Vector Arena on Sunday afternoon (3pm NZT).
If the injury is deemed to be serious, Woodside could be out till at least February, and if that is the case, the Breakers will be looking for a replacement.
"There are a couple of guys on the shortlist," said Henare.
"One of my first tasks today was to make a call to our scout in the States and start those initial conversations.
"With us playing next Friday and in Perth on Sunday, it's a big weekend. So ideally, if needed, we'd have someone by then."
Woodside will be a massive blow to the club, as he is currently the league leader in assist this season.
For now, Corey Webster and IsaihTueta will fill the void of the point-guard position until Woodside returns or a new player enters the Breakers fold.
